Psalm 62:5 My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him.
If it's one thing that probably does us in, it's our expectations!
We live life filled with all kinds of expectations. The HARD part is, when those expectations are not met, it is SUCH a let down. It can be disheartening and depressing.
So many times I have "expected" my life, my ministry, to go like this and look like that. I have had expectations on what I want in life, where I want to live, work, who I want to be with, how the people I'm ministering to should respond, etc, etc, etc, etc.....YOU?? In that marriage, children, house, finances, work, church, friendships, ministries? Yes, the list of expectations is LONG!
Rarely, if ever, does it pan out the way I see it (or want it) in my head. But what's incredible is when you walk with God, in the Spirit, what HE does is the greatest expectation our heart could desire. On the contrary, when we are walking in our own flesh, it's kicking and screaming inside, maybe a total meltdown, or anxiety and depression. I'm literally faced with this crossroads right now in my own life. That's why I've brought us to this verse today:
My soul, wait thou only upon God; for my expectation is from him. Psalm 62:5
When we are waiting for "our" expectations to all "line up" with the creation in our minds, it can be a weary and really, a tearing-away-at-the-soul, kind of wait.
But when we say to our own soul, WAIT thou ONLY upon GOD; for my EXPECTATION is from HIM, and truly trust him and allow him to work, he lines up our desires with his and our expectation becomes "not my will, but thine be done". And when it's God, it is always "exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think..." Ephesians 3:20! Whatever you are facing, practice this verse and don't lose hope!
