When God Provided Water Trucks

By, Sarah Frazer

“And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovah jireh:

as it is said to this day, In the mount of the Lord it shall be seen.”

Genesis 22:14

One night during the quarantine, I sat the fourth empty bottle of water by the door. While living in Central America we didn’t drink the tap water. In fact, we couldn’t brush our teeth or cook using tap water. So trucks with 5-gallon bottles of water would drive through our neighborhood selling refills. We had four of those bottles at a time, but after over a week of no water trucks, we were almost empty.

Before the pandemic, I would have panicked and made plans to disobey the curfew to go get water; well, I would have sent my husband out to get water. I would have stressed, worried, and probably stayed up for hours in my bed until 2 a.m. thinking, How will we get water!? We needed it and all of the worst-case scenarios would have flooded through my mind.

Instead, the two months of isolation had taught me again and again that God would provide. There was no reason to rush and worry. God had shifted my heart to believing the truth about His character.

Jehovah-Jireh: The Lord Shall Provide

I praised God that night, a Sunday night, because I knew we would have water the next day, even though the water trucks usually came Tuesday. I went to bed excited to see how God would provide what we needed. How did I know this? Because we needed water and God would provide. I wrote this in my journal the night before:

“He has never NOT provided. God’s provision is a lesson I didn’t know I needed to learn. Oh the kindness of God to teach me of His provision during this pandemic. What a good, good Father.”

The next day, Monday, the water truck came by. Bright and early before our last gallon was spent. We did not go completely empty because God would never leave us completely empty. So, we go through our life, through wilderness seasons, joyful days, and even dark nights., knowing God provides.

Daily we see that God provides not just physically what we need, but we have a Great Provider who lives in heaven who provides for us spiritual. It was Abraham, on Mount Moriah, who first spoke this name for God. God asked Abraham to offer his only son Isaac but before the knife could kill his son, God provided a ram in the thicket. God provided the sacrifice needed for Abraham.

“And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram

caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram,

and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son.

And Abraham called the name of that place Jehovah jireh:

as it is said to this day, In the mount of the Lord it shall be seen.”

Genesis 22:13-14

Today, we see that God’s ultimate provision in that He provided His only son on the cross for our sins. If God did not withhold his Son, Jesus Christ, on the cross, He will not withhold what would be good for us as well. If your heart, mind, body, and soul is in need - God is the one who will provide for it.

Daily Tip: Start looking for the small (and big) ways God is providing for you right now in this season of your life.
